My reusable cup obsession

Determined to do my part for the environment, and - let’s face it - I’m a sucker for aesthetics, I made it my mission to find the perfect (in my case) “almond-milk-chai-with-extra-honey” (AMCWEH) - drinking vessel.

The great news is that there is a myriad of options on the market.

I started obsessing over Joco - especially the dreamy turquoise hue - before being distracted by an exquisite array of ceramic cups in pretty pastel colours. However, with many lacking heat-protectors (which you can buy, BTW), along with a fear of breakage, I made the decision to keep moving forward in my pursuit of dream-cup perfection.

Eventually, I found what I considered, reusable-cup utopia. The gorgeous glass KeepCup with a delightfully stylish cork holder.

Oh how I cherished my beloved KeepCup. It went everywhere with me. It became part of my identity. I felt so virtuous drinking my AMCWEH.

Life was complete.

Until….

A bad night’s sleep and too much on my mind; I wasn’t on my game. Attempting to juggle wallet, hand-bag, shopping, sunnies, keys and the like, I managed lose my grip and unceremoniously drop my precious KeepCup.

I watched in slow-motion as it crashed to the polished concrete at my regular coffee shop - and then it happened.

Smashed into a train-wreck. Cafe staff -very graciously- scrambled for dust-pans and I just stood in shock —- First World Problem —- yes, I know it. They then had the heart to offer me a complimentary chai. What beauties.

However, I really did mourn her. I waited weeks and weeks before moving on.

And, although tempted to re-purchase the same model, I decided it was a sign to look upon new horizons.

I scoured the Internet and eco-stores for the next best fit, and eventually found the holy-grail of re-usables - the made by Fressko.

OHhh how I love my Fressko cup. You know why? Aside from her sleek, minimalist design, she is fully insulated (so I can nurse my hot cuppa - that stays hot - in my own time; she doesn’t break; she is light (perfect for travelling), she has a really nifty spout and secure screw-on lid that won’t leak or fall off and she accommodates a decent beverage (the standard 12oz). She costs a little more ($45) but she is worth every chai-drinking penny.

This is my ultimate personal favourite - what’s your favourite eco drinking-vessel?
